/ Action Bias & Control Group

In our research group, topics are covered in the domains of numerical cognition, spatial attention and working memory, decision making and cognitive control. At first glance, these topics may seem unrelated. Nevertheless, a common interest unites the different research topics. That is, we are interested in the question how action is biased and controlled. In several tasks that we use, an automatic tendency for a certain action needs to be inhibited to perform a task adequately. We investigate how the alternative action gets activated. We additionally investigate what the influence is of this process on subsequent actions. We conduct our studies using a variety of different techniques such as behavioural designs, prismatic adaptation, and neuroimaging techniques (fMRI, EEG). We seek answers to our questions both in healthy individuals as in brain-damaged patients.
