Our friend and colleague Philippe Mousty passed away this summer, on July 21st.

Philippe Mousty was well-known in the French-speaking and international scientific community for his innovating studies on Braille reading, and for his work on reading and spelling acquisition in French. He was also the creator of the BELEC battery, a set of tests aimed at evaluating visual word recognition skills in children, which has gained large popularity among French-speaking speech and language therapists, and was translated and adapted in several other languages.

Professor Mousty was interested by the evolution of basic knowledge in the field of psychology and language as much as by their practical implications in the area of atypical development. He was very popular among students and watchful to everyone or to any special needs or requests. He has conveyed to many generations of students the principles and methods of modern diagnostic evaluation, and the concern for detailed analysis of each patient singularities.

All his close colleagues and collaborators keep a vivid memory of a devoted teacher, a meticulous researcher and a discrete, modest and considerate person.  We will deeply miss him.
