Nathalie George - EEG-based neurofeedback: Mechanisms & application to Parkinson’s disease
Dr. Nathalie George, Paris Brain Institute (ICM)
Neurofeedback is a cognitive training procedure, whereby subjects receive real-time feedback on their cerebral activity while they perform a task, with the aim of ameliorating or restoring some target cognitive or sensorimotor function. We use motor-imagery based neurofeedback with EEG in order to train subjects to self-regulate their beta activity associated with motor functions. In the last years, we have run a series of studies aiming at understanding the cognitive and electrophysiological determinants of neurofeedback performance, with the ultimate aim of developing neurofeedback for Parkinson's disease. These studies underline some of the challenges of neurofeedback and more generally brain-computer interfaces.
