When performing a difficult task, humans typically have subjective metacognitive experiences associated with their performance. These appraisals can take the form of confidence in the choice, perceived difficulty of the task, and perceived fairness of reward.
My PhD focuses on investigating the hypothesis that the three subjective experiences are integrated into a single value that determines if and how much control is invested in a task. It was argued that metacognition evolved in humans in order to enhance social interactions. I therefore investigate the possibility that the three metacognitive measures exist in order to be shared and used by other people to improve their performance.
